この度、Yoshimi Artsは、5月に開催されます「アートフェア東京」に参加する運びとなりました。国内外の若手作家を個展形式で紹介するセクション「PROJECTS」に選出され、弊廊ブースにてイギリスの作家レイチェル・アダムスの個展を開催致します。
レイチェル・アダムスとの出会いは、2013年にロンドンのSaatchi Galleryで開催されたグループ展「Paper」で発表した彫刻作品でした。その作品は、一見古典的なブロンズ像や石像の位相を持っていましたが、知覚がその作品の重量感に違和感を教えてくれました。近づいてみると全て着色された紙で形作られており、紙という素材は慣れ親しんだ物なのに今まで見た事もないその作品に感動致しました。Yoshimi Artsにおいては、2014年にグループ展「“Material and Form” in a digital age」に参加し、2015年には個展「Open Studio」を発表しました。また、Sainsbury Scholarship in Painting and Sculptureに選ばれたことにより、昨年10月から1年間ローマに滞在しており、現在現地で制作をしています。
アダムスは20世紀の彫刻史に影響を受け、彫刻家のスタジオと、そこで制作を行う彫刻家たちに思いを馳せてきました。それと並行して、現代家具やライフスタイルブログから着想を得たイメージを描き続けています。手染めの布地と、高度なデジタル処理技術によって造られたアクリル製のオブジェクト、そして伝統的な彫刻手法と道具を用いたこの新しい彫刻のシリーズは、歴史に対する私達の知覚概念と、アートとデザインを隔てている階層的な構造の矛盾点を浮き彫りにします。
