We are pleased to announce Miki Sato’s exhibition “Viewing: Miki Sato”. Exhibits are works presented in her solo exhibition, “The Face: A Paradox” at the G.ART FIELD gallery, operated in Tokyo by the aesthetician, Atsushi Tanigawa.
Sato has been using “face” as a motif to introduce this world and the interpretations of its complex energy that are impossible to verbalize. Sato states: “...Unintelligibility and incomprehensibility are the nature of being ‘face to face’, however, I can also see the rich and vast horizons of perception, thought, and curiosity – the aesthetics of human existence and the source of ethics. I am seeking to express the essence and richness of ‘face’ in a painting, where the representation is essentially the polar opposite of ‘face’.”* Using ‘face’ as an entrance, Sato is attempting to express herself in her paintings while appreciating a number of coincidences through all things, time, and body.
In this exhibition, we introduce Sato’s nine new works that reflect her thoughts on her relationship to the world, in the process of exploring the issues surrounding her self-existence, and her awareness of others within herself.
*Excerpt from her comment regarding her solo exhibition “The Face: A Paradox” (2021).
